Another Period Drama Couples Quiz

Bonus Photo Question:
Can you name this couple and the older period drama they are featured in?
The first Period Drama Couple Quiz I posted a couple weeks ago was quite popular so I'm taking from my long list of period drama couples again to bring you this quiz. Remember as you guess that not all the couples listed are the hero and heroine of their stories.

To Play: Read the clues below and leave a comment guessing which period drama couple I'm thinking of and which period drama or story they come from. Guess as many times as you wish. I'll respond with your score. The answers will be posted next Saturday.

Scoring: Four points for each correctly guessed gentleman, lady and period drama (or classic story). Twenty points can be earned by guessing the names of the couple in the Bonus Photo Question above and the older period drama they are featured in. A total score of 200 points can be earned.

Couple Clues:

Couple #1. Heroic archer with a thieving habit. / Titled lady who shares his passion for helping others.

Couple #2. Sweet and naive young heroine's friend. / Gentleman farmer who writes a very good letter.

Couple #3. Impetuous younger sister of heroine. / Spendthrift charming soldier.

Couple #4. Naive young songstress. / Her protector and patron of the musical theatre.

Couple #5. Sweet young lady and princess of her moorland clan. / Brave young farmer.

Couple #6. Imaginative young postal assistant. / Handsome news journalist.

Couple #7. Hilariously silly hero's sister. / Rich speculating investor.

Couple #8. Princess kidnapped by her own fiance. / Poor farm boy turned pirate.

Couple #9. Angelically sweet doctor's daughter. / French nobleman turned tutor.

Couple #10. Passionate young songbird with high ideals. / Military gentleman with disappointment in his past.

Couple #11. Freedom talking British politician. / Spirited young woman who encourages him to rise above failure.

Couple #12. Bookworm with an overactive imagination. / Witty clergyman with knowledge of textiles.

Couple #13. Imaginative girl who doesn't make the same mistake twice. / Merciless teaser who later turns chum.

Couple #14. Sensible young ladies' maid. / Crippled soldier turned valet.

Couple #15. She's a trusted companion and housekeeper with a mysterious past. / He's a kindly physician of Welsh origin.

Happy guessing!

Woo-hoo! These are fun. And the picture is Charlotte and Mr. Collins from the 80's P&P. ;)

1: *blink, blink* Well I would think Robin Hood, but then the lady wouldn't be titled. :P

2. Harriet Smith and Robert Martin from Emma. :)

3. Lydia Bennet and George Wickham, P&P?

4. Could this be Christine and Raoul from The Phantom of the Opera?

5. Oooh, is this Lorna Doone and... um... OH COME ON I KNOW HIS NAME. Argh. It'll come to me. Hopefully. Anyway, from Lorna Doone. Heehee. Maybe?

6. Laura Timmins and I can't remember the guy's name, Lark Rise to Candleford

7. Possibly Fanny Thornton (can't remember the man) from North & South.

8. Buttercup and Westley, from The Princess Bride (although she wasn't a princess, was she? She was just going to be when she married the prince, I thought.)

9. Should I know this one?

10. Must be Marianne Dashwood and Colonel Brandon from S&S? :)

11. Barbara Spooner and William Wilberforce from Amazing Grace?

12. Haha, this MMG. Catherine Morland and Henry Tilney, Northanger Abbey? (Squeee!)

13. This one MMG too. Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables (and the Sequel)

14. I'm thinking this must be Downton Abbey? But I don't know the names.

15. Esther Summerson and Allan Woodcourt, Bleak House?

Haha, I'm back!
Okay, so 1... then I would say it was Marian (I've heard it both Lady Marian and Maid Marian...) but if the title isn't Robin Hood I don't know what it is. :P

5 is John... Ridd, right? Haha, the name isn't very memorable, no wonder I couldn't think of it to begin with. ;) Although I suppose if the story was called John Ridd instead of Lorna Doone I would. :P

9! Lucie Manette and Charles Darnay from A Tale of Two Cities. Heehee, I rather forgot that Charles was a tutor. For some reason when I read that I was picturing some slightly older guy with a heavy French accent actually tutoring the lady in question. Oops. ;)

Oh, and on 6... is his name Daniel or was that a different fellow? (And even if it isn't, I can't remember the last name.)

Miss Laurie of Old-Fashioned Charm said...

Melody,
You guessed the correct lady on #1 (and the title was correct). You guessed the correct guy on #5. And on #9 you guessed completely correct. Yes, you guessed the correct first name for the guy on #6 so I'll let you have the point.

The way that worked is explained in the book but not the movie-- apparently Humperdinck couldn't marry a girl without a title, so they fenced off a tiny portion of land in Florin, named it Hammersmith, and made Buttercup the Princess of Hammersmith in a private ceremony. Heeheehee. :D
